Jens Wilken Hornemann

(1770 - 1841)

Botanist. Studied medicin and followed Martin Vahl's lectures at the Copenhagen Society for Natural History ("Naturhistorieselskabet"). Travelled 1798-1800 extensively in Germany, France and England. In 1801 lecturer of botany at the Copenhagen Botanical Garden, from 1808 professor of botany of the University of Copenhagen. Editor of Flora Danica 1805-41; in this capacity he travelled extensively in Denmark, Slesvig- Holsten (Schleswig-Holstein) and Norway.
