Frederik Michael Liebmann

(1813 - 1856)

Botanist. Liebmann studied botany at the University of Copenhagen, but never passed an official examination or obtained a degree. He went on a study tour in Germany 1835, and on another one in Norway 1836. He became lecturer at the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural College 1837-40, and again 1845-53; he travelled 1840-43 to Cuba and Mexico; from 1845 he was professor of botany at the University of Copenhagen, and director of the Botanical Garden from 1852. Liebmann himself has given the number of his collections as 90.000 specimens, but this must include duplicates, living plants, etc. An apparently complete set is at the Botanical Museum. His herbarium also included numerous duplicates from other botanists.
