C.H. Ostenfeld

(1873 - 1931)

Danish Botanist. Leader of the Botanical Museum 1900-1918, professor of systematic botany at the Royal Danish Agricultural University 1918-23, professor of systematic botany, University of Copenhagen 1923-31 and member of the board of directors of the Carlsberg Foundation 1921-31. Ostenfeld studied the vascular plant flora of Denmark and Greenland, marine plancton from the expeditions with the ship "Dana" and the plants from his various expeditions to the New World and Australia. He also made studies of the flora of Thailand and Tibet. Collecting trips to the Danish West Indies 1913-14, with "Dana" 1921-22, to Western Australia 1914, to Canada 1924, and to U.S.A. 1926.
