H.C.F. Schumacher

(1757 - 1830)

Danish Botanist and physician.

Schumacher studied medicine and botany in Copenhagen. He became an acknowledged physician and medical doctor with a scientific career in those disciplines, but he remained interested in botany and acquired a large herbarium which is now in the Botanical Museum (C). This herbarium contained both his own collections of Danish vascular plants and fungi and numerous duplicates of collections made by others. 1786-89 he travelled to Paris and London where he studied in Sir Joseph Banks' botanical collections and received many duplicates now at C.
