Martin Vahl

(1749 - 1804)

Botanist. Born in Bergen, studied botany at Copenhagen and in Uppsala under Linnaeus. Editor of "Flora Danica." Lecturer at the Botanical Garden of Copenhagen 1779-82; one a study and research tour of Europe and North Africa 1783-85; professor at the Society for Natural History ("Naturhistorie Selskabet") in Copenhagen 1786. Full professor at the University of Copenhagen 1801-04.
